Hawaii Kai is not without its merits. These photos tell only part of the beauty that is Hawaii Kai. First of all, there’s the marina with all its water activities and sporting activities- the kind of sports that can be played while holding a beer —yachting, fishing and shooting pool and lobbing darts (the shark experience is on hold for now). For the more passive, there’s several restaurants lining the marina and even a movie theater. For the morbidly passive, there is a Taco Bell slash Pizza Hut. There is certainly truth in humor and and the truth sometimes hurts doesn’t it?
I found this skit pretty funny because there was so much truth in it. The bar even closely resembles La Mariana on Sand Island Access Road.
The media in Hawaii has reported that this skit shows Hawaii in a negative light. (Has no one there seen “Dog the Bounty Hunter”?) and is insulting and distasteful to Hawaiians. But maybe bringing out the truth in a humorous way could bring attention the the plight of the local people of Hawaii.
Someone who had just spent their vacation at an expensive resort in Hawaii asked me how I could have ever left Hawaii. Really.
