The SciFi Channel is changing their name to Syfy and the tag line is “Imagine Greater”. It’s pronounced the same, so this is a ‘visual’ change of the name and rebranding of the channel.
It’s also about owning their brand. NBC Universal can’t own Sci Fi because it’s a genre, but they can own SyFy. It recently became available when SyFy Portal rebranded to Airlock Alpha.
There’s been a lot of uproar over rebranding recently, with Pepsi and Tropicana in the forefront. Wonder how this will go.
