Up in The Air
dir. Jason Reitman
I recently got to see a preview of Jason Reitman’s new film “Up in the Air” which will open on December 4.
Starring George Clooney, Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick, the dialogue is witty and fast and performed to perfection by all. Clooney plays a corporate downsizer, traveling 300 or so days a year to companies to fire their employees for them. Clooney has some great expressions and reaction shots and uses he ever growing bushy eyebrows well here.
My favorite performance in the film is by Anna Kendrick as Natalie Keener, the new employee that Clooney’s character, Ryan Bingham, is training. I loved her in “Rocket Science” and if you haven’t seen it, netflix it or something! She plays a similar character in “Up in the Air” that she did in “Rocket Science”. It’s almost like the student she played in “Rocket Science” but 5 years later. Also, I guess she’s in something called ‘Twilight’, a new movie franchise?
If you liked “Thank you for Smoking” and “Juno”, you’ll like this one too. Reitman is 3 for 3. And another great opening sequence by Shadowplay who also did the titles for Reitman’s previous two films.
